Pénélope Breuil est nommée conservatrice-adjointe au musée de Bayeux,
musée de la célèbre tapisserie : 70 m de tissu brodé qui raconte la
conquête de l'Angleterre par Guillaume le Conquérant.
Pénélope Breuil is appointed assistant curator at the Bayeux Museum, where the famous tapestry is displayed:
230 ft of embroidered fabric relating the conquest of England by William the Conqueror.

Dès les premières pages, ce roman se présente comme un thriller :
attentat manqué contre la conservatrice en chef, vol, etc.
Pénélope mêne l'enquête et l'histoire de la tapisserie se déroule
au fil des pages : un mystère qui commence en 1066 puis se prolonge jusqu'à
lady Diana en passant par Napoléon, Hitler, le duc et la duchesse de Windsor...
Straight from the first pages, this novel presents itself like a thiller:
failed assassination attempt against the chief curator, theft…
Pénélope investigates and the story of the tapestry unravels itself along with the strands of the plot:
a mystery which starts in 1066 and ends at Lady Diana,
evoking Napoléon, Hitler and the Duke and the Duchess of Windsor…

J'avoue que cette histoire historico-policière ne m'a pas passionnée.
L'auteur qui est professeur d'histoire de l'art ne peut s'empêcher
d'émailler son roman de références artistiques abondantes. C'est agaçant !
Un bon point cependant, cette lecture m'a donné envie de revoir la tapisserie.

I must admit that this historic detective novel didn’t grab me.
The author is a history of art professor and he cannot refrain from sprinkling his novel
with abundant artistic references. It is so annoying!
However, the good thing is, after this read I wanted to see the tapestry again.
